Global Prep Squad in the Community
GPS is committed to helping communities both inside and outside the U.S. borders.
KC for Refugees
Refugees frequently arrive in the U.S. with little more than the clothes on their back. Our team members partner with KC for Refugees to provide refugees with refurbished computers, replacing what was left behind. GPS collects used computers, reformats the hard drives, updates the software, and delivers the computers to KC for Refugees, helping newly arrived families succeed in their new home.
Rotary International and People to People
Each year, members of the Global Prep Squad join with Rotary International and People to People to assist with one international project and one national project (four projects in all). Past projects have included fundraising for a robotics program in Okinawa, fundraising for the Red Cross’ “Vaccinate a Village” program, and collecting eclipse glasses for Astronomers Without Borders.
KC International Academy and Don Bosco
The English language is tough—even for native speakers—so learning it can be frustrating for immigrants. New arrivals to the U.S. want to be productive members of society and contribute their communities; however, doing so is difficult if they don’t speak the language. KC International Academy and Don Bosco’s English as a Second Language (ESL) Center provide free English classes to children (kindergarten through 8th grade) and adults, respectively. Members of our team volunteer their time to tutor non-English speakers in our difficult language.
